Company History

theBalm Cosmetics boasts a complete line of makeup, skin care, hair care and nail polish. With a "beauty in five minutes" philosophy, theBalm's multi-use, mega fabulous products have become its calling card, offering quick fixes and wondrous solutions for a wide range of beauty wants and needs. The company's wearable colors and fantastic formulas allow women to release their inner artist so they can look and feel fabulous.


In 2004, Marissa Shipman, founder of theBalm, realized there were a few simple products she needed to help her look and feel glam all the time and if she needed them, other women did too... Marissa decided to indulge her cosmetic curiosities; she got on Amazon where she bought 11 books on how to make makeup and started mixing in her kitchen. "I went makeup crazy. I incorporated the company, worked out a budget, hired a chemist and designed a website." She began integrating anti-aging ingredients, triple-milled pigments, fabulous scents...and theBalm was born. Fast forward eleven years, you can now find theBalm's Paraben and Cruelty-Free products worldwide.

Product Development Assistant/Makeup Artist

theBalm is seeking an ALL-STAR Product Development Assistant/ Makeup Artist to support our CEO and her product development team. We are an established cosmetics company with retailers across the globe.

We're looking for a makeup artist who has excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, strong work ethic, and a real interest to learn about the behind the scenes side of the cosmetics industry. We’d love someone interested in building a career in the field because we love to promote from within! Excellent writing skills are key. Supply chain or sourcing in any capacity is a huge plus, but if you don’t have it we are willing to teach you- as long as you have the drive, persistence and the demonstrated ability to keep things organized. If you’re one of those people that makes lists for everything then you’re on the right track! Please know that this position does not usually involve artist application on customers, but we feel firmly that an experienced retail artist would be able to thrive in this position. Travel is required.

Tasks included but not limited to:

  • Assisting the product development team with the day-to-day activities to meet project goals
  • Source components and vendors
  • Follow up on emails, inquiries and samples of projects
  • Give feedback on formula submissions
  • Conceptualize new formulas/ products
  • Create and manage spreadsheets (cost of goods, project status, etc.)
  • Keep project sheets up to date and meet deadlines
  • Work with labs either on location or remotely to create fabulous products
  • Drop-off, coordinate and track packages
  • Perform internet research
  • Creating looks for our social media/marketing departments (on and off camera)
  • Keep project samples and deliverables highly organized
  • Manage and relay executive schedules at all times regarding personal and business affairs
  • Running miscellaneous personal and business errands

Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license

Qualifications:

* 4 year Bachelor's degree or Beauty Certification and at least two years of makeup artistry experience.

* Computer Skills: Excel, Outlook, Word, Internet Research

* Must love makeup! You are going to try new things all the time. You will come to work fresh faced and leave with two different eye looks etc.- you’ve been warned!

* Strong communication skills. Proficient in writing, editing and verbal communications. Bilingual a plus.

* Capacity to independently see a project through from start to finish with minimal assistance.

* Ability to move quickly, multitask, re-prioritize, and have exceptional follow through without sacrificing attention to detail

*Keep an absurdly organized working environment

* Must be able to use discretion and maintain a professional demeanor* Takes initiative but understands boundaries

* Previous experience assisting or working closely with a CEO is a plus

* Experience with on camera makeup (i.e for photography/makeup vlog etc.) a plus

Internship

We’re looking for a smart, savvy intern to join our rapidly growing beauty company!

 

theBalm is an exciting, fast-paced work environment where you will experience many aspects of the beauty business. The ideal candidate will be excited to learn and will know how to balance attention to detail with a “get-it-done” attitude.

 

A day in the life of an intern at theBalm might include administrative duties, answering customer feedback, analyzing data in excel, doing online research or modeling in a photoshoot! Everyone wears many hats and we all pitch in wherever and whenever needed.

 

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a genuine interest in makeup and the beauty industry.

 

This role has a variety of duties that may include some or all of the following depending on the day:

 *Assisting our design department with various projects
*Online research
*Various technology projects
*Tracking and compiling data
*Administrative support
*Online customer support
*Merchandise shipping

 

This is your chance to get your start in the vibrant beauty industry with a brand that has big fan love and a lot of freedom to innovate. This is a temp position with long term possibilities. Interns are eligible to work 24 hours per week.

Do you offer a pro discount for makeup artists?

We do offer a 20% discount to professional makeup artists. To apply for your pro-discount, please send your resume and portfolio (or websites where your work is available) and any certifications to info@thebalm.com.

How can I change or cancel my order?

Once an order has been placed and you’ve received a confirmation email, we are unable to cancel or make any changes as this means that your order is already being processed. Please be sure to review your cart, as well as your shipping and billing information before checking out to make sure it’s accurate. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. If we are unable to generate a shipping label with the address provided at check out, our Customer Service team will reach out to you for an updated address. This may cause a delay in processing and shipping time. If we do not receive a response within ten business days, we reserve the right to cancel the order and return the funds to your account.

How do I know which shade to choose?

Feel free to send us a current photo, or a photo of a celebrity with a similar complexion, and our in-house makeup artists will help you find the perfect match.

How long has theBalm been in business?

Marissa Shipman began mixing makeup in her kitchen in 2002, but theBalm wasn't incorporated until 2004.

Do you ship internationally and to military bases?

Yes! We ship internationally via USPS. International shipping is $20 to Canada, $25 to all other countries, and free for orders over $150. During sales and special promotions, shipping is $25 to Canada, and $38 to all other countries. These prices do not include possible customs fees or taxes, which vary by shipping destination.

How long will it take to get my order?

At theBalm, we strive to process orders as soon as they are received, but do have a standard processing time of 2-8 business days. Due to the high volume of orders received during sale or promotional events, please allow up to 10 business days for your order to be processed. Domestic orders are estimated to arrive in 3-5 business days from the time of shipment, while international orders may take up to two weeks. Estimated arrival does not include our standard 2-8 business day processing time or any delays due to customs clearance.  UPS 2nd Day Air orders must be placed before 4PM PST to ship same day, and will arrive within two days. If 2nd Day Air is selected at checkout on a weekend or office holiday, the order will be processed as soon as we are back in action. If an order is returned to us by the postal service, we reserve the right to process a refund after 10 days from the receipt.
